OE-Cake Tutorial Made by Kit Scuzz (Scuzzstuff.org) Download the game from http://www.scuzzstuff.org/oe_cake or from http://www.octaveengine.com/en/casual/trial.html Anything missing? Figure out what one of the hotkeys does? Confused with an explanation? Something wrong?! Contact me! scuzzstuff@gmail.com Enjoy! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Terms I use in this tutorial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- canvas - the place where you draw particle - anything currently on the canvas that is not empty space material - anything accessed by clicking on the buttons in the "physics" box or something with a hotkey drawing options - pencil, brush, bucket, replace, shape -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Explanation of tools: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- brush - create the selected material on the canvas with broad strokes pencil - create the selected material on the canvas with thin strokes shape - create the selected material on the canvas in a box defined by a mouse click and drag bucket - replace all particles connected to whatever particle is clicked on with the currently selected material move - drag the entire canvas with the mouse eraser - remove anything selected (only one particle) replace - select a material before clicking this tool, and then any particle that you click on will be replaced by the material you selected spuit - click on a particle, this becomes your "selected" particle type, press on any of the drawing options and you will produce more of the particle you clicked on arrow - move selected particles with the mouse slice - do not erase any particles, simply sever the bonds that connect the particles together color - select a material, then select color, when you next draw the substance on the canvas it will be that color. "Hot" things always have a red tinge. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hotkeys: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- q - water w - wall e - elastic r - rigid t - tensile y - snow (unlisted material, only "three state" substance- goes from solid-liquid-gas, but never becomes solid again) u - user's (you can control this with the arrow keys) i - inflow o - outflow p - powder (explodes on contact with anything "hot") a - inert fluid (same as n) (unlisted material) s - string d - dense f - fuel g - gas h - heater j - jet k - rice l - light z - eraser x - rigid axis c - cooler v - viscous b - brittle n - inert fluid (same as a) (unlisted material) m - mochi @ - fire 1 - set graphics style to points 2 - set graphics style to crosses 3 - set graphics style to circles 4 - set graphics style to blurred circles 5 - set graphics style to blob 6 - set graphics style to blob and texture 7 - set graphics style to shader 8 - set graphics style to "shader + ?" 9 - set graphics style to "shader + ?" 0 - set color based on temperature/base material ! - ? ESC - Enter/exit material builder mode (explained later) Shift + a material - Pour that material (aka shift + h pours liquid heater) (immediately after doing this pressing left and right will shift the location of the pourer) ` - pour fire (because you can't hit shift + @ (unless you have a japanese keyboard)) / - Change from pour to "rain" , - Toggle drain on/off . - Toggle pour on/off ; - Toggle gravity on/off ' - ? (nothing?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Material Builder Mode -- Explaination -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As was just exaplained above, hitting each of the keys above produces a certain material, material builder mode allows you to mix the properties of materials to produce more fun materials. Hitting escape once will put you into this mode. You will notice if you have one of the drawing options selected, that you now produce a grey, completely inert fluid, just as if you had hit a or n. Now, whenever you hit a hotkey, you will add properties to the inert fluid. For example: simply hitting "h" will add the property "heater" to your fluid. It will work just like heater, only as a fluid. Now if you were to hit "v" you will add the property "viscous" to the fluid. So now if you draw it on the canvas, you will have liquid heater which is also viscous. You remain in this mode even if you select one of the material buttons with your mouse. So to continue the example above, you select water, in order to confirm that the stuff you made is hot. You draw the water, and sure enough: it's just plain water. Then you hit "c" in order to draw "cooler," but when you draw it, you get some pink viscous stuff which doesn't seem to do anything! That's because you added the property "cooler" to your viscous heater! To leave material builder mode, you need to hit escape again. Now hitting "c" will produce cooler, just as you expected. Hitting escape again will put you into material builder mode again, with the inert grey starter fluid. There are some oddities about the ways that certain things will work: inflow - will produce a material with all the properties except for rigid, rigid axis, or wall. If you select a flammable material, the inflow particles will ALSO be flammable. outflow - mixing outflow with material will render it incapable of removing any materials which share traits. So mochi/outflow cannot remove anything that also has the property mochi or the property outflow. Outflow/inflow produces outflow which can still destroy other inflows! jet - Will not react with anything with the same makeup. Jet/mochi will not jet anywhere util something else touches it, but jet/mochi will still try to move mochi, but not other jet/mochi particles. wall - Sticks the drawn particles to the background. Will not move unless you use the "move" tool. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pictures: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Select a material. If you drag a picture (most any format will work) onto the canvas, you will get that picture made out of the material you picked. PNGs or GIFs with transparent backgrounds are best, as they will actually be in the shape of the object in the photo. JPGs will always be squares, as the background is part of the photo.
